Welcome!

Hello friends! I am so glad you've decided to visit my little corner of the internet.

As a performer, I've always known that storytelling is my passion. This, combined with a long-time love for writing, has led me to indulge my inner Carrie Bradshaw and begin documenting my journey as I navigate this crazy adventure called life.

A little bit about me:

I'm a Mississippi girl, currently calling Oklahoma City home as I study Acting at Oklahoma City University and chase my Broadway dreams. Despite its many limitations, Meridian, Mississippi was and always will be my home. To me, Meridian is a beautiful natural park with walking trails for days. Meridian is a charming, antiquated downtown scene that only improves with age. Meridian is the community playground that hosted my sixth birthday party. Meridian is running into the sweetest neighbor in Winn Dixie and stopping to chat for half an hour. Most importantly, Meridian is family.

Last August, I ventured out of state to begin studying at Oklahoma City University. This step had been a dream of mine since childhood--to move far away and pursue my dreams of performance full-time. I recently finished my first year at OCU, and I can look back now with certainty knowing that I made the best decision of my life so far in making the leap. I cannot say enough good things about OCU. The training, the professors, the facilities, and Oklahoma City itself? All incredible. My favorite part, though, is the people. Everybody is grossly talented, constantly uplifting, and genuinely so kind. All of that being said, OCU is also the most challenging environment I've ever been in. In a performance program, you learn your weaknesses quickly. You study your flaws daily. You are your greatest project. Knowing this has caused so many moments of doubt, but also the greatest period of growth I've ever experienced. Triumphs are few and far between, but when they are earned the high is that much higher. Being able to do what I love every day has been the greatest blessing, and I'm so thankful for this stage of my life that I'm in.

A few of my favorite things: 1) local art, 2) eclectic coffee shops, 3) barre, & 4) all things dulce de leche. At the beginning of this year, I set a goal to do some things that scared me. Original, I know.. Lately, I've noticed how rarely I'm transparent on social media in expressing my thoughts, experiences, opinions, etc. Why is it that it's so easy to share a conversation with someone in person, but we struggle to be vulnerable and open on social platforms? I think a lot of us feel pressure to only share the highlights of our lives; I'm here to break this habit of mine and open up.

As a performer, my livelihood relies on creating connections with others and bringing relationships to life onstage. Understanding other people is the root of theatre; it's why I love what I do. I hope this blog is a platform for me to share pieces of myself with the world, and also learn about you along the way! In the midst of writing and sharing my thoughts on all of the things (lifestyle, health, self-love, theatre, fashion, food, books...you name it), I'm here to share in your stories, your loves, and your experiences.

Here's to many more letters from me to you! I can't wait.

xx Kaylila
